The outfit

The crew behind the truck

This is a working tree crew, not a call centre that sells your job on. The person who quotes it is the person who does it.

The work is carried out by an established tree and stump business that covers the Moreton Bay corridor, and this site is how you reach them for work in Caboolture and the suburbs around it.

No middleman

One crew, quoting its own work

A lot of tree enquiries in south east Queensland go to a lead broker, get sold to three contractors, and you end up fielding calls from people who have never seen your yard. That is not what happens here.

An enquiry through this site goes to the crew that would do the job. They come and look at it, they price it, and they turn up with the gear to carry it out.

The trade-off is honest: you get one quote rather than three. What you also get is a number from someone who has stood in the yard and knows what the access is.

The gear

The gear is the difference between two quotes

Most of the price gap between one tree quote and another comes down to what the crew can get to the tree. Here is what that means in practice.

  • Elevated work platform

Reaches over the top of a tree instead of climbing up through it.

It is how a limb hanging over a roof gets cut and lowered rather than dropped. Without one, that same tree is a climbing job, and a climbing job on a dead or storm-damaged limb is a different level of risk.

  • Mini loader and chipper

Moves timber out and turns branches into mulch on the spot.

It is the reason the clean-up is included rather than an extra. Everything that comes down goes through the chipper where it lands, so nothing is barrowed to the kerb and left in a pile.

  • Stump grinder

Takes the stump 250 to 300mm below ground level.

It travels on the same truck, so a removal and its stump can be done in one visit rather than booked twice. That matters more than it sounds when the machine has to come through a side gate.

Pricing

Nobody prices a tree properly over the phone

You can get a number over the phone from plenty of people. What you cannot get is a number that survives contact with the yard, because access, what is underneath and how much room there is to drop timber decide most of the cost.

So the quote happens in person and the number is fixed. It does not move once the work starts, and there is no obligation to book after it.

Stump grinding is normally priced per stump and separately from the removal. Ask for both in the one quote and it comes back as one number.

Things you might not want to hear

We would rather tell you now than invoice you later

  • Some of these trees need council approval first

Moreton Bay and Brisbane both protect certain vegetation, and whether yours is covered depends on the overlay on your lot and sometimes the species. Taking down a protected tree without approval lands on the owner, not the contractor. If a tree looks covered you hear it before anything is booked.

  • Sometimes the answer is pruning, not removal

A tree that drops limbs is not automatically a tree that has to come out. Taking weight out of a limb, or thinning a crown so wind moves through it, solves a lot of what people ring about. It is a smaller job and we will say so.

  • Lopping done badly costs you the tree

Cutting a tree back hard leaves wounds it cannot seal, and the regrowth that follows is weakly attached and fails in the next big blow. Pruning here is done to Australian Standards for that reason, not as a selling point.

  • A hung-up limb is not a wait-and-see job

A limb that has come down but caught in the canopy is holding its own weight on nothing much. It can let go with no warning and no wind. If that is what you are looking at, ring rather than filling in a form.
